1890's Lace-and-Roses Bridal Gown

Inspired by an 1893 Worth design, this gown of delicate ivory rose-figured brocade is ornamented with pink satin roses and hunter-green satin leaves on the shoulders, bustle and lace-trimmed wrist loop.  The umbrella skirt is lined with ivory taffeta and asymmetrically draped with lace flounces, which are anchored by pearled and sequinned applique trim.  The train is bordered by ivory rose trimand pleated Chantilly lace.   The fully-lined, partially-boned bodice is embellished with floral pearl-and-sequin appliques which continue the asymmetrical theme of the skirt.  Matching floral applique trim is layered over gathered lace to form the half-sleeves, and more lace is swagged over the back of the bodice, which closes with ivory satin buttons and loops.   In all cases the sequins are transparent and iridescent, giving the gown a crystalline sparkle without the "glitzy" look sequins usually cause.

All of the applique trims are hand-sewn, and the roses are individually handcrafted to various sizes and shapes.   Taffeta and tulle dust ruffles on the underskirt help to define the drape of the skirt, which is worn over a crinoline.   Pricing for this design is approximately $5500 plus materials cost.
