Wedding version, Civil War gown
Redone in ivory, the 1860's gown becomes a bridal fashion. Here it is trimmed in pearlescent organza swags and ivory taffeta chevrons, edged with ribbon and piping. It is worn over a corset, a five-ring hoopskirt, and a crinoline. The boned bodice dips to a deep point both front and back, and alternates brocade and taffeta bound in piping. The sleeves are double gathers of organza, set off by small chevrons to match those on the skirt. The cost of the gown as shown is about $3000 plus materials. Many other possibilities exist for trimming the skirt, and other sleeve styles are available as well. |
